May Day Seed Bombs

Happy May Day!

I figured I'd throw in an extra post for the day to show you what we are doing for May Day!

I don't remember hanging baskets on neighbors doors when I was little and until Pinterest & Blogging came along, I didn't really know that it's what you do on May Day!

Instead of giving grown flowers this year I thought it would be fun for us to make some seed bombs to hang on doors today! We followed this tutorial from ReiLynn Designs blog and it was a ton of fun. Bug loved making them so much she even told me at night time how much fun she had!

The rain this morning is kind of crampin' our style. Maybe we will hang them later!

I'm writing a little thing on the back of the tag so they know what these are:

Toss these seed bombs where it's bare;
soon you will see flowers there!

 What are you hanging today?

Happy Earth Day

Sorry to post so late. Hubby and I went to a dinner for the ambulance company he volunteers for and we got back super late which means we slept in because Bug didn't wake up until 9:30am {a very rare occurrence on a weekend day}!

 It's Earth Day! Here are some ideas to do today {and every day} because we love the Earth we live on and want to keep it around, right?!

  • decorate a tote / crochet a market bag for shopping
  • plant a garden / grow your own food
  • shop local
  • go on a nature walk
  • hold a sale to collect money to donate to an environmental group
  • pick up trash
  • play a recycle sorting game
  • switch to reusable items
  • make your own baby/toddler food
  • reusing things for art {egg cartons for paint, yogurt containers to store play dough...}
  • recycle old clothing
  • repurpose  wine/bottles, bottle caps

    Crochet Easter Egg Chicks

    I had a whole list of Easter things to make over the weekend and none one of them got done. I made an Easter Egg Paint Chip Banner. That's about it. It's a little late to start decorating for Easter but hey, better late than never, right?!

    Last night I made this little chick-a-dee. I think he's pretty cute! Some might even end up in Bug's basket. We'll see how much spare time I have this week.

    Anyhoo, if you want to make one too you can just hop on over to EASY Makes Me Happy and follow Tara's free Easter Egg Crochet Pattern. It didn't take long to make and at about round 9 or 10 I just added some eyes and a beak. I kind of winged it so I'm not sure how my future one's will look.

    PS- This lovely {free} printable came from One Dog Woof.

    As always I would LOVE it if you would share your finished projects on my Facebook wall. It makes me so happy PLUS you get to be in the Made By YOU album for all to see! Yay! {unless you don't want to of course.}

    Colored Eggshell Art

    I'm sure lots of you will be hard boiling and coloring eggs this week so here is a fun art project to do with some extra eggs.

    Hard boil 2-3 extra eggs. When dying, peel the shell off the egg first, then drop the pieces of shell in the dye to get color on both sides. This helped with Bug since she's a toddler and didn't have to worry about gluing the wrong side down.

    Once you have your shells dyed {I used water, a cap full of vinegar and food coloring since we did this before egg dying time}, let them dry then crack them into smaller pieces.

    You can glue onto cardboard, card stock or any other heavy type paper. We took an empty cereal box and cut an egg shape out of it. Glue on your eggshells and let it dry.

    After it's dry you may want to gently shake it over the garbage to get those shells that didn't quite get glued on so well off. {Warning: you may still have a few spare shells falling off here and there.}

     There you have it! I hope you give it a try with your little one! As always, feel free to share your projects on my Facebook wall if you do!

    Speaking of Facebook, I want to let you all know I am holding an auction to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All items are starting at 50% off with free shipping so come on by and see if there is anything you'd like. If anything, I'd love for you to share it with your friends and fans! Thanks!

    Valentine's Day Can-dle Holder

    This candle holder is made from a can and it's a great project to work on together to give to someone special on Valentine's Day!

    What you need:
    • an empty, washed out can with the label peeled and top off {make sure there are no sharp edges!!}
    • paints in your color choice {we used kids poster paint}& brushes
    • a hammer and a nail
    • a sharpie
    • heart stencil {I used the small heart from here}
    What to do:

    Place the can upside down {the closed bottom side up} so your child can hold it without touching the inside in case of sharp edges.
    I can't stress enough to make sure there are no sharp edges. Be sure to supervise your child as they are painting so they do not touch the opening or inside of the can juuuust in case!

    For the kids to do: Paint the whole outside of the can {you don't have to paint the bottom}.

    For the parent to do: Cut out your small heart stencil out of sturdy paper or thin cardboard {like from a cereal box}. I used a file folder. Place it in the center and mark dots along the heart with a sharpie.

    Now for the fun part! Take your hammer and nail and bang the nail into the can on each sharpie mark. {if you don't have a steady hand the nail might scratch off some of the paint. We just repainted around the heart where it scratched off. It's up to you if you want to let your child help or handle the hammer. It does take some force though.
    {or you can save the painting for last}

    Place a tea light candle inside {or one of those flameless ones} and enjoy the heart shaped glow!

     {I have one of those long match holders so I didn't burn myself lighting it}

    Red Beet Heart Pancakes

    Have I told you how much I love the site Weelicious? Well, I do!

    Catherine posts amazing child friendly recipes for the whole family! It is my go to site to find food to make for Bug. There is not one recipe we have made that Bug didn't gobble up...plus there are lots of recipes good for the whole family to eat. Most are even freezable and include instructions on freezing and re-heating.

    We love to prep meals to throw in the freezer for the week/month and these Red Beet Pancakes seemed to be the perfect breakfast to make ahead for Valentine's Day! We followed the recipe from Weelicious to make the batter.

    We poured it into a squeeze bottle we bought at Walmart in the kitchen utensil section. {we got some beet clumps in it and it was hard to squeeze when they got stuck so you might want to watch when you pour and make sure there are no clumps}

    We used the squeeze bottle to make hearts and letters to say I <3 U.

    Yup, she shoved the whole heart in her mouth! That's how yummy she thought these were.

    Bug and I ate about half the batch as we were cooking. They were delicious! I never even thought I would like them too...but I did! We still had some extra to freeze for Valentine's Day week! Horray for easy morning breakfast!

    Enjoy!
