{Wordless Wednesday} My Little Big Girl

First I want to apologize for the lack of posts this week. I have been somewhat busy with family {Bug's brothers were here for the weekend} and Bug has been potty training {and doing well} and moving up into a big girl bed. Along with that I have been trying to get lots of Halloween, Fall & Winter items out to be modeled for the coming season.

Bug found a popsicle stick and started using it as a nail file. She has been hanging out with her Aunt Jess too much {who does her nails every weekend we go there}.
PS - Aunt Jess has a blog for nail designs. Check her out here.

{Freebie Friday} Win a Pair of Knit Booties from WhittiesKnitties!

This giveaway is now closed.

It's finally Friday! Woo! That means it's giveaway time! Let's meet Whitney from WhittiesKnitties, an Etsy shop full of lovely knits for you and your little one. She is giving away winner's choice of booties from her shop. {and they are all adorable!}

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Whitney and I am a Midwest girl through and through. I am an Elementary school teacher taking some time off to stay at home with my beautiful baby girl, Scarlett Begonia (yes, she is named after the Greatful Dead song!). I am married to the most WONDERFUL man in the world who is my best friend and hero. We just moved back to Iowa after 4 long years of military service and we are blissfully happy to be back in the Midwest.

What made you want to become an artist?

I have always had a creative side to me. My grandmother was a painter and from the time I can remember I would sit with her as she painted and she would let me dabble. I paint, write, knit, crochet, take photos…you name it I have probably tried my hand at it!

What is your favorite item to create?
It truly depends on the day. I have phases when I only want to make shoes and then I will wake up one day and only want to make headbands! Right now I would say my little sandals are my favorite item to create!

What advice would you give to new artists on Etsy?
Take time to build your business…it is not going to happen overnight. Don’t rush to get as many things in your shop as you possibly can, take your time to make each with love! Use the community that is Etsy to your advantage, join teams…talk to people, we are all in the same boat!

How do you promote your work?
I have a Facebook page and just joined Twitter (but to be honest have no clue how to use it for promotion!) I try to wear something I have created each time I go out or put something on Scarlett. I live in a college town so I have started giving items to people I know who are “out there”, like waitresses or hairstylists. I ALWAYS carry a handful of business cards because you just never know!

Do you have any websites connected to your shop?
Facebook: www.facebook.com/whittiesknitties
Twitter: twitter.com/whitsknits

What is the inspiration for your work?
My sweet little Scarlett!

Where do you create?

Any place in my house that is out of Scarlett’s reach! I spend a lot of time with her crawling on my lap or playing keep away from her as she grabs skeins of yarn and takes of running! I have a “workspace” but I mainly use it as a place to keep my things…my husband spends a lot of time putting my supplies back where they belong, I think he is worried they are going to overrun our house!

What are your goals for your shop?
I would like it to provide enough to allow me to continue to stay home. I also know how it feels to buy something that I truly love and I hope to give my customers the same feeling when they look at a piece I have created!

{Thursday Thoughts} Quick Iced Coffee from James

I am a coffee addict. I have at least a cup every morning and afternoon at nap time. If I don't, Bug will tell you what happens. {It's not pretty} Since it's summer, I have been loving some iced coffee in the afternoon so in the morning I stick my coffee in the freezer so that by nap time it's...semi iced. My sister's boyfriend was over at my moms this weekend and shared a quick way to get your coffee from warm to iced! I have to share it!

Take your coffee and fix it while it's still warm so the sugar disolves.

Take a drink mixer {I don't know what they are called but they look like this}
Fill it up with ice, then your coffee. Then shaka-shaka-shake it up until it's cold! {literally took a minute or two} Then pour through the strainer part and enjoy!

*I also like to make ice cubes out of un-fixed coffee so when it melts my coffee isn't watered down.*

{Wordless Wednesdays} Family Fun

Bug loves playing with her brothers! {and they love playing with her}
I love how awesome they are with her!

{Toddler Tuesdays} Move & Groove with Patty Shukla

Bug and I just love to dance and move around! It's great for gross motor skills and gets those kiddies to be active! I was searching for this song that I have heard on either Nick Jr. or The Disney Channel and happened to stumble upon Patty Shukla in the process. {I have yet to find the song I was originally looking for} Bug is now in love with dancing to most of her songs. Here are our favorites that you can dance and move around to:

 "JUMP!" is Bug's favorite. My favorite part is the rest she gives us parents in the middle! I don't know about you, but I am not capable of jumping for a whole 3 minutes like Bug is!

This "STOP" song is kind of like a freeze dance. We use our signs "stop" and "go" for this song {as well as run, dance, jump, and all the other activities}

"If I were an Animal" gets you and your kids moving like different animals through the whole song. Bug loves to waddle like a Penguin {and I must say she looks so cute doing it too}!

We love "Play with Me, Sing Along"! It ends with having the kids sit down which makes for an easier transition from moving around into story time {or another calmer activity}!

I hope you enjoy moving around to these songs as much as we do! Bug loves when I participate and dance along with her and it helps her act out the movements by watching me too. So put on your dancing shoes {or kick your shoes off} and have fun!

{Mmm, Mmm, Mondays} A Healthier Nutella

Well, it has been a super busy weekend for me which means I did not have a chance to do any cooking {eek!}. I was unsure of what I was going to post today until I came across this recipe to make your own Hazelnut Spread from Weelicious {one of my favorite sites for kid friendly recipes}.

I don't know about you, but Bug and I looove Nutella! Especially for making these Nutella Pancakes {from where else but Weelicious}! The only "problem" is that it isn't the healthiest thing to have on a daily basis. Now I can make Bug all the Nutella Pancakes she wants with this new recipe. Even her brothers switched from wanting Chocolate Chip Pancakes to Nutella Pancakes!

While you are visiting Weelicious, take a look around at Catherine's other recipes. Your kids will love them {and so will you}!

If you have a kid friendly recipe your child enjoys & would like me to post it for an Mmm, Mmm, Monday post please email me at totshop728 at yahoo dot com {subject: Mmm Mmm Monday}
