With school starting in some areas and back to school just around the corner here...I thought this was an appropriate reminder to show your child's teacher some appreciation.
I follow a blog called "Surviving a Teacher's Salary" which is written by a wife of a teacher. I love it! While going through my dashboard last week I came across a post written by her husband, the teacher. As a certified educator myself, I understood all his frustrations with the system in place and I share the same feelings. Although I am not in a classroom yet {but hoping to be sometime soon}, it makes me sad to know that children have these huge tests to prep for in elementary through HS {and some teachers put a huge amount of pressure on them} to do well because that is the way teachers are judged. I don't know about you, but I am a terrible test taker. I get nervous and don't quite believe in them. I am a presentation kinda gal. It's more hands on and I feel it better shows what you have learned. Tests, in my opinion, show how well you memorize...and I am not cool with that. Not to mention the fact that one teacher could have a class of 30 kids of all different levels to teach! {How would you do with a room full of 30 5 year old Kindergarteners?} Before I rant on and on about the school system, I'd love for you to hop on over to Surviving a Teacher's Salary and read the post Why a Teacher?
With back to school coming up here in NY {or already starting in other states}, please remember why most teachers teach. Show them some appreciation, even if it is a heart felt "thank you".
