{Freebie Friday} Win a Flower Clip from Little Tadpole Designs

Giveaway Closed.

It's finally Friday...and a Freebie one at that. I'd love for you all to meet Heidi, the creator of all the wonderful items you can find over at Little Tadpole Designs Etsy shop.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Heidi and I'm wife to a wonderful husband and mommy to two adorable children. Our son is 2.5 and our daughter is almost a year. I'm also the creative hands, mind, and heart behind Little Tadpole Designs items for babies and youngsters. We live in cottage country of Eastern Ontario, Canada.

What made you want to become an artist?
I'm not sure I really think of myself as an artist... not in a traditional sense at least. In fact, I even have a hard time considering myself a "small business owner"... as I just love making stuff and really do it because it gives me a chance to do something creative that doesn't involve crayons or playdoh. I like making things for myself to meet a need, and I like making them well enough to share them with others too.

{Turtle Matching Game}
What is your favorite item to create?
Ooo. that's a tough one! I love my crocheted dolls and toys! Because I make them without a pattern, there is so much freedom when I start one! In fact, they almost seem to create themselves in a way. I also love making my Cuddle Blankies! I made the first one for my son and he loves it so much! The fabric is just so soft and I can imagine while making each one how much another baby would love it. My Cuddle Blankie and Binky Leash Gift Sets have been so well received as baby shower gifts it just makes my heart glow!

{Crochet Baby Doll "Marcy"}
 What advice would you give to new artists on Etsy?
Don't be afraid to try things and take as much advice as you can get! As a relatively new shop owner myself, I can't express how grateful I am for the support of fellow Etsians! My shop has grown and changed so much since I first started based on the support and suggestions of others... and I've made connections to some amazing, wonderful people through the process!

How do you promote your work?
I love to work with other shop owners to promote each other and "share the love". I have a Facebook page that I use to communicate with and ask for input from my fans, as well as share new items. My items have also been available in local mom & baby stores and events.

{Toddler Belt}
 Do you have any websites connected to your shop?

What is the inspiration for your work?
My children, every single day! Every item I made was inspired by a need or interest of theirs... and I'm glad of it because they have shown me things that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. All of the unique features of my designs have come from their influence... and I'm always asking myself what they are going to get me to make for them next!

Where do you create?
Wherever I can! Haha! Most of the time, I do my creating in front of the TV in the evenings or on the kitchen table. I'm working on getting my "craft center" set up and organized and am really looking forward to having somewhere that I can leave my unfinished projects out all the time!

What are your goals for your shop?
My goal is a steady flow of business and hopefully lots of return or referred customers. I'm not aiming for financial freedom, just a balance so that when I find something new I want to create, I can afford to get what I need to do it... and maybe have a teensy bit of spending money to get something extra just for me!

{Pacifier Clip}
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Really just a "thank you" to everyone for supporting handmade crafters and artists! Etsy has really opened my eyes to some amazing items and gifts and as a buyer as well as a shop owner it is awesome to see the creativity that is out there!

And to say thanks... I'd love to offer 5% off any orders this week for having featured me here on Tutus & Tea Parties! Use coupon code BLOGLUV5 in my Etsy Shop.

{Sponsor Spotlight} Cynthia of Alpaca Kids

This week's sponsor spotlight is Cynthia of AlpacaKids. Her shop is full of adorable crochet & knit baby items made only from natural alpaca fiber that has not been dyed. You will fall in love with all the beautiful hats & sweaters Cynthia has created! Visit her shop and have a look around. You will be happy you did!

About Cynthia & AlpacaKids:

About this time last year I found out that I was going to become a grandmother when my two oldest daughters announced (yes, at the same time!) that they were pregnant. I have always loved to knit, sew, and crochet, and I went into grandma overdrive making things for the babies. In the past my daughters had urged me to open an Etsy shop but I had never discovered that unique niche that I felt it would take to be successful at it. Then my brother, who has a small alpaca farm in the mountains of North Carolina, sent me some yarn that had been made from the fleece of his alpacas to make something special for the babies. I instantly fell in love with the amazing qualities of the natural undyed alpaca fiber. It is softer, stronger, and warmer than wool, and hypoallergenic, so it doesn't irritate babies' skin the way other fibers do, and it comes in a wonderful variety of natural colors. After making sweaters for the new babies I realized that I had found that niche that I had been looking for, and alpaca kids was born. So now I make baby items using mostly natural undyed alpaca fiber. My grandbabies are 4 and 5 months old and are a constant source of inspiration. They also make great models for my hats and sweaters!

 Here is just a little of the beautiful creations you will find at AlpacaKids:

She also has a blog which you can follow here.

{Tutorial} No-Sew Tank Top Bag

Has anyone seen The Tank Top Tote? They are available to buy for $8.95 here, but I'm going to show you how to make one yourself {without sewing}.
Grab a tank top you don't want to wear any longer, some Ultra Bond Fusible Web, heat up an iron {and maybe grab a cup of coffee if you're anything like me}. Lets get to work! :)
Turn your tank inside out & tear off remove the tag with a stitch remover.
I don't advise being lazy like I was and try to rip it off or else you will end up with a hole that you are going to have to sew up...which will take a lot more energy than using a stitch remover. *Humph*
Cut a strip of ultra bond and place along the inside bottom of your tank where you want it to be attached. {your bond will most likely look different than mine. I got mine with something I purchased for hemming it and just used that}
Iron it as instructions on bond gives you. Make sure it is all secured. If not, run the iron on it for a little longer.
Turn your top right side out and there you have it! Your very own tank top bag. {even my hubby thought this was pretty darn neat}!
I'll probably be using mine to carry around my yarn and projects to work on when traveling. I wouldn't put extremely heavy things in this {unless you can sew...which I can't} but I'm sure it could hold a decent amount of weight.

If you make one I'd love for you to show it off! Upload your photo here on my Flickr Group. {I'd really love for you to join.}

{Toddler Tuesdays} Felt Face Board

I love felt! I have been meaning to make a full on felt board for activities, but haven't gotten around to getting a large piece of felt to make one with. I do however have lots of felt pieces. They are about $0.20 each sheet in the craft store so it is the perfect material to use for crafts!

Bug has been whiny in the car lately so I decided to make her a felt face board to entertain her in the car or if we are out. It's even great for sitting at the table and playing while I cook dinner. Here's how I did it:
I freehand drew a face and ears & cut it out. {fabric scissors work best on felt}

I then hot glued it to another piece of felt.
Added some googly eyes {but you can make some felt eyes} and a nose.
Go to town and make some funny mouths, hair shapes, mustaches, eyebrows...etc.
My hubby had one of these clip board things that he didn't need anymore so I took it and thought it would be great to clip the face board on and keep the pieces inside for travel & to keep in the car all together.

Have fun and make some faces...

...then let your kiddo play with it.

{Mmm, Mmm, Monday} PB&J Pops

What's that Bug? You want an ice pop...for lunch? Sure thing!

I have never bought ice pops for Bug since she was born. I always made her baby food and all the treats as well. There has never been a time when she asked for an ice pop that I have said no because they have always been a healthier treat than those sugary ones from the stores. I make fruit juice pops {from the actual fruit i.e. watermelon, cantaloupe, berry} and yogurt pops and Bug eats them up without even realizing she is getting calcium and loads of other good stuff with it!
When I saw this recipe for PB & J Pops on Weelicious {if you haven't checked out this site...you should} I knew I had to try it! Bug is just starting to eat PB & J and in the form of an ice pop is even more enticing! I'm pretty sure if I made Brussels sprout pops she'd give them a go.

I'd love to see how yours came out. Share here on my Flickr Group {please? :-< I think it's a little sad I only have 3 members}

What's your child's favorite way to eat PB & J?

I will for sure be checking out this shop for party or holiday cards/invites! Have a look at her shop and you will find a great design you could use!

About Danna & her shop:

I am a 27 year old stay at home/work at home mommy of 2 little boys, Ryan (3) and Reece (1).  Their daddy/my husband is my high school sweetheart.

I started my business as a scrapbooker and gradually converted to designing digital stationary.  I run my at home stationary business between meal times, diaper changes, and tantrums.  I got into scrapbooking about 7 years ago and since I started "Unique Scrap Designs" in March of 2010, I have become a self renowned graphic designer!  I love creating cute designs for my customers.

My designs are purchased as digital files for my clients to print, and I also offer professional card stock prints to my clients who wish to have their cards printed for them.  I have designs for every occasion, as well as coordinating return address labels, stickers, printable party items, and coordinating party tshirts.  I have just recently started designing and printing cute custom mouse pads and have also opened a second Etsy shop devoted entirely to wedding stationary, "Unique Wedding Designs" (link: http://www.uniqueweddingdesigns.etsy.com)  I also have a studio on Artfire: http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/studio/UniqueScrapDesigns

{Freebie Friday} Win 2 OOAK Headbands from NikkiInStitches

Giveaway Closed.

It's Freebie Friday y'all! Today we have a special one of a kind, never gonna be made again bundle from NikkiInStitches! Nikki's shop has headbands, hair clips, & onesies beautifully made in lovely fabrics! Today, she is giving you a chance to win two original headbands never to be made again. You know what that means? NO ONE will ever have what you do...if you win. The only way to do that is to enter...so... read about our Etsy friend Nikki and make sure you enter in to win!

What made you want to become an artist?
Creating is in my genes. I grew up watching my mother and grandmother make everything by hand, so when I started to feel the desire to create on my own, it felt very natural.

What is your favorite item to create?
Behind the wheel of my sewing machine is my favorite place to be. Any project that involves time sitting at my machine quickly moves to the top of my to-do list!

What advice would you give to new artists on Etsy?
Get involved. Not only does joining teams and jumping into conversations get you more attention and traffic, but the relationships you make help to keep you motivated and inspired. Since joining Etsy, I feel like I've done some of my best work, and that's not coincidence.

How do you promote your work?
I promote my work mainly through social media and word of mouth. My goal for the upcoming months is to get my product into stores.

Do you have any websites connected to your shop?

Do any of your items go toward a special cause?
At this point, I have three pink headbands (they are only sold directly through my Facebook page) that are limited edition Breast Cancer Awareness Headbands. With each headband sold, $10 is donated to helping find a cure for cancer.

Do you have a job outside of Etsy? How do you handle both?
My job outside of Etsy is being a stay-at-home mom to two beautiful babies. Yes, a lot of days it's hard to handle both, but I love every minute of it.

Here's your chance to win two OOAK Headbands from NikkiInStitches!
Mandatory Entry:
{please do this first before any other entries}

Visit NikkiInStitches and comment
your favorite item in her shop.

Extra Entries:

1} Heart NikkiInStitches on Etsy.
2} Follow Nikki's Blog -  www.nikkiinstitches.com/category/blog/
3} Follow NikkiInStitches on Twitter.
4} "Like" NikkiInStitches on Facebook.
5} Become a follower of this blog {or let me know if you already are}
6} Enter in another giveaway on this blog and let me know which you entered.
7} Blog (with a link to this giveaway), tweet (please tag using @tutusteaparties & @NikkiInStitches), or post on Facebook (please tag using @Tutus & Tea Parties & @NikkiInStitches) and leave a link where we can see it.

Be sure to leave your email address with each entry.

Contest closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011. Sunday, October 9, 2011 a winner will be randomly drawn from eligible entrants and notified by e-mail, and the winner's name will also be posted here. If no email is listed I will choose another winner. Winner has one week to respond to my email to claim his/her prize after initial contact.  I am not responsible for the shipping of this prize.
