We love going to the beach! During the summer Bug came home with shells and I kept them in a bucket for when she did water play but now that summer has ended I decided to make another use out of a couple large ones. I hate to wear my rings to bed or if my hands are going to get wet {taking a shower or doing dishes}. I usually just take them off and leave them on the counter which is dangerous because they could get knocked into the sink! Over the weekend we were celebrating a family wedding and I had left my rings home. I called hubby and told him where they were {in the kitchen, on the spice shelf, on top of the salt container}. He wasn't happy that that's where I put them so here is my idea...a shell turned ring/jewelry holder! If you want the simplest way you can just take the shell, flip it over and voila! Instant jewelry holder:
If you want to decorate the inside {which of course I did} here's what you'll need: |
Large Shell, Modge Podge, Brush, Scissors, and Paper {I used some scrap book paper} |
Cut out a square of your paper that is larger than the shell and tear it into little pieces. |
Cover the inside of your shell with Modge Podge. |
Start adding your paper pieces. You may have to reapply some Modge Podge to overlap the scraps a bit. |
Cover the entire inside with your paper scraps. {I'm thinking now that maybe fabric would look pretty too...I'll have to give it a try on another shell} |
Make sure you get the edges. Once it dries for a little bit you can trim it with a scissor or razor then apply a little Modge Podge to the edge. |
Let it dry and there you have it! |
I put this one in the bathroom and another will be going in the kitchen by the sink. |
I hope you enjoy making this! If you take a picture I'd love for you to join my Flickr Group and upload it so I can see. Or you can post it on my Facebook wall! :)
Have a Happy Thursday!Linked up on:
