Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Jill, and I am a wife, mother of two kids under the age of two, full time art teacher, artist, Etsy shop owner, and I’m a little tired. : ) I started my Etsy shop, petitepaintbrush, while I was on maternity leave with my first child. I create artwork for children, specifically paintings and collage.

What made you want to become an artist?
For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be an artist. One day, when I was a toddler, I was in my room, supposedly taking a nap. I took my crayons and created a drawing on my bedroom wall. I remember being so excited and proud of the drawing, and I could not understand why my mom was so upset!

What is your favorite item to create?
I love to paint! I was on bed rest a few months ago, and was determined to use that time to create more artwork. Since I found it difficult to paint while on the couch, I started experimenting with collage. I created several collages from recycled junk mail. I like the idea of reusing materials to create something beautiful.
What advice would you give to new artists on Etsy?
I still consider myself a new artist on Etsy, so I would welcome advice from others! My biggest challenge is finding time to work on my shop, so I guess I would advise others to make time for their art.
How do you promote your work?
I promote my work with my Facebook page, belonging to several Etsy teams, and word of mouth. Also, I give gift certificates to my shop as baby gifts.
Do you have any websites connected to your shop (blog, facebook, twitter)?
What is the inspiration for your work?
My children are my inspiration. Before my first child was born, I set a goal to start an Etsy shop, but I did not know what type of shop to start. After creating paintings for my daughter’s bedroom, I decided that I would love to create art for children. I am also an art teacher, and I enjoy the excitement children show towards art.
Do any of your items go toward a special cause?
Not currently, but I am open to the idea.
Do you have a job outside of Etsy? How do you handle both?
I am a full time art teacher at an elementary school. I’m not sure I handle both well, so I just try my best.
Where do you create?
At our house, we have what I call a “budio,” which is a guest bedroom and art studio! When I was on bed rest for a few months, the couch was my art studio. I still find little scraps of paper stuck between the cushions.
What are your goals for your shop?
You can win this beautiful Swing Print from Jill's original artwork!
