{Toddler Tuesdays} Block Puzzles

This was a fun little activity I did with Bug. She just loves her blocks so I decided to take it to another level and make a puzzle out of them. Just build with the blocks, but leave a space where only one shape will fit then have your child figure out which block goes in that space.

What goes here?
Try again.

Hmm, nope.
That's the one!
Hooray!
What goes here?

Yay!

Puzzles are great for working on cognitive skills,  fine motor skills, problem solving & hand eye coordination...to name a few.

{Don't mind Bug in her diaper. It is super hot in our apartment and she hates wearing clothes these days.}

I just figured out how to add a linky tool so if you have a blog and have posted a toddler activity I'd love to see it! If Bug and I do your activity/craft I will feature your blog in a future Toddler Tuesday! :)

This is the meal I will be following. It may not be a sufficient meal for your child. Adjust as necessary.

{Freebie Fridays} An Interview with MsVeronicas & Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed.

Happy Friday! Today we have a giveaway from Roanne who is the shop owner of MsVeronicas. Her shop is full of beautifully silk screened  cards, books and towels.

Enter below to win your choice of either a Mum notebook or a Mum Flower Sack Towel.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm Roanne and a walking oxymoron and I'm okay with that. I'm a baby yogini with a need to create. Anything that's clean fun, I'm game. I love to travel, though I don't get to do it much but I find it's the best education. And I have a really cool last name - BACCHUS, Dionysus' Roman counterpart.

What made you want to become an artist?

The funny thing is I'm now beginning to accept the name 'artist'. But, it was at the age of 25 was when I realized I had to create/design, and not doing that was not fulfilling who I am.

What is your favorite item to create?

Right now, its my new fabric items, though I really I love paper and printmaking. I honestly don't know if I have a favorite because I like to try my hands at anything there is to try. Who knows what surprise creations I'll be working on six months from now. It would most likely be screen printed though, that is my standing theme.

What advice would you give to new artists on Etsy?

Read. Research. Jump in feet first. Repeat as needed.

How do you promote your work?

I do giveaways - lol. Actually, my items so far, have done better in person. It's really hard to appreciate the quality of a screen printed card or book from a photo. At least that's the excuse I've decided to use. Seriously, right now, I do everything that there is to do - blog, tweet, Facebook, renew listings, advertise, and on and on and on. I'm taking note of things that get more responses and I'm weeding out or changing the things that don't, ie, I've tweeked the way and what I tweet. I think different outlets work for different products and I'm trying figuring out what will work for mine.

Do you have any websites connected to your shop?

What is the inspiration for your work?

I'm a Graphic Designer by trade and so I've learned to find inspiration everywhere and in everything. Personally, I really like simple, classic design and I try to portray that in my work. I try to have a timeless quality to my items because, like fashion, a well designed, classic piece is always 'in style.' Also, the challenge with printing is capturing in an image, something that usually takes words to express.

Do any of your items go toward a special cause?
You could say that. Operation Write Home receives one card for every card sold in my shop. Their mission is stated as “Supporting our nation’s armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them.” And the coolest thing is that they only accept handmade cards.

Do you have a job outside of Etsy? How do you handle both?

Not only do I have a full time job outside of Etsy, I'm a part-time Fine Arts student. The hardest thing was being easy on me and allowing myself to not be perfect all the time. After I started trusting my ability and work ethic, the work demands became manageable. Of course, the important things like my God, my family and friends and my yoga practice helps too.

Where do you create?

What are your goals for your shop?
I would like to have a customer base of repeat customers who enjoy sharing  or introducing quality handmade items to the folks they know (like I do). What's a little scary about that is I've always found myself to not be part of 'the big crowd' but I'm hoping there are people out there like me in at least that aspect. I also hope to expand the 'helping hand' of my shop. I'm currently collaborating with another artist on a mutually beneficial venture.

{Thursday Thoughts} Stranger Danger

We have all been taught not to take candy from strangers, right? All my life I have never been offered candy from a stranger...until now...and it happened more than three times in the past month!

I take Bug shopping with me to the craft store, Walmart, Target...pretty much anywhere I have to go because she loves to shop. She's the only toddler I know who asks to go to Walmart then cries when I tell her we don't need anything.
People often pass by and comment how cute Bug is or how good she is being and in the past month strangers have offered candy for her. I politely say no thanks {even though it would make Bug a quieter shopper since she enjoys screaming for fun in the store}.

Is it weird to offer kids candy these days? Seems to be the norm around here lately.

Oh, one more quick thing...I am featured on {Around the Plate} with a giveaway! You can go on over and enter to win 2 Mug Cozies from me, a Teacup Brooch, and a $10 credit from the Mora Nutrition Food + Kitchen Accessory shop!

{Wordless Wednesdays} Bug got the camera!

Over the weekend we went for a visit to my parents and Bug took pictures of everyone!

Ooo Dess (as Bug calls her)

Grandpop

She took a picture of herself on accident.

Nanny
Then Bug got a little better,  actually we kind of had to position ourselves where she was pointing the camera.

Sorry sis, I had to! This pic makes me laugh!

{Toddler Tuesdays} Paper Ripping Fun

If there's one thing Bug likes to do it's making a mess! Fortunately she also happens to love cleaning up! {I may have made her a little OCD about this since we can't leave the house if a toy is on the living room floor}

Here is how we had some fun recently. All you need is paper. That's it! Try to reuse some scraps or shipping paper. I hate seeing paper being wasted. Junk mail would be perfect for this too!
Have your little one rip up scraps of paper. We put ours into a pail so it wasn't all over the floor until...

...I took the bucket of paper and dumped it on her! She loved having it poured on her and throwing it up in the air and watching it fall.

It's really the simple things that are the most fun!

Enjoy!

PS - yep, I made her Onesie! It's one of my faves!

{Meal Planning Mondays} The First Meal Plan

I have been thinking about how I am going to do this and so it is easy for everyone so here is what I'm thinking:

I will put up a meal plan every Monday for the following week. This way you know what you need to prepare and what to have in the pantry as well as fruits and veggies to have on hand. Most of these meals can be frozen and used in more meal plans.
Does this work for everyone? I will link up the recipes I get from the web in the meal plans. As for the recipes I use from the book, you can Google a recipe similar I'm sure. {The book really is a great one to own and is reasonably priced!}

Meal Plan for May 30 - June 3

You should be able to click on this image and see a larger version. Please let me know if it works for you. I am new at importing Excel to Blogger.
Recipes & Links:
Until I learn how to link in the Excell form-
Blueberry Oatmeal:
Cook oats according to instructions. Add blueberries and let cool. Serve.

French Toast Sticks
Roasted Veggie Sticks
Turkey Sliders

Pretty please leave a quick comment if you plan on following the meal plans. Keep in mind this is a guide and of coarse you can change out a few meals. If you find this seems too complicated, not enough variety, not what your child would like, etc. please leave a comment and let me know! :) Enjoy cooking for your little one!
Please note: I am in no way a nutritionist or have any professional knowledge of nutrition/health for toddlers. Refer to your pediatrician before giving your child new/unfamiliar foods and be sure you are giving your toddler the appropriate servings of fruits, veggies & calcium.

An Interview with Hanoush & Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed.

Meet Hana, the shop owner of Hanoush. She has such a wonderful shop full of great jewelry!

You can enter below to win this lovely

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Hana Kae Almaoui. Born to a Lebanese father and Irish mother. I had the wonderful privilege to be born in America, California to be specific and then at the age of 8years move to Lebanon for 9 years. Living in Lebanon was special in a way I cannot describe. I learned to speak Arabic and grew to love the culture, and the best part: to cook Lebanese food, yum! After graduating high school there I moved back to USA, Arizona to be specific ;D and 11 years later I have accomplished marrying an amazing companion, given birth to two extremely cherished boys, worked as a skin care therapist, working as a medical biller now, crafting for fun and relaxation when I get the chance to, and plan to travel a few places here and there, raise my boys to be good men and pray that a childhood dream to live on acreage with horses and lots of animals will come true in the end! Oh, I plan to visit Lebanon too after 11 looong years, hoping my boys will love it as much as I do.

What made you want to become an artist?

I think I was born with art in my blood! As an only child, art was my only friend. Drawing and painting came first, then clay sculpting, my favorite. I love making art work for my kids, hoping that they can love art as much as I do.

What is your favorite item to create?
My favorite item to create would be anything customized, to where it matches that person's personality. Something, that is meant for you and only you.

What advice would you give to new artists on Etsy?
I am so glad I stumbled upon Etsy. I am truly addicted to this site and love browsing the hundreds of unique and special items available that you may not find in stores. When I opened my shop, I wasn't experienced with taking the right picture to make my item look its best, so I invested in a light box, some cool scrapbook papers (for background appeal) and a good digital camera. Presentation is what matters most, if it looks good, it sells.

How do you promote your work?
My work is promoted from word of mouth mostly, by friends and family. I also made sure I added my Etsy shop home page to my husband's iPad! That way he can just click the icon and voila! my shop is open for his clients to browse. Lol! I also did a Facebook page so my friends from out of state can see what I do too. Oh, not to mention joining teams through Etsy has helped a lot ;D

Do you have any websites connected to your shop?
Yes, if you search Art De Mon Coeur on Facebook, you can find me there.

What is the inspiration for your work?
Inspiration is everywhere. The other day I was driving and saw a license plate that said "2 pnuts" or something like that and I came up with the idea to make some peanuts shaped from clay as pendants for mother's day. I find inspiration through nature and animals too.

Do any of your items go toward a special cause?
Yes, I have one item in my shop that is a multi-use clip, it says "Save our planet" and all proceeds go towards DirectRelief.org, mainly for Japan Disaster. I will also be making some dolphins to help bluevoice.org, this site is dedicated to protecting whales and dolphins.

Do you have a job outside of Etsy? How do you handle both?
I do have a job other than Etsy. Etsy is my hobby, the money I make from my products goes back to buying more supplies and goodies for crafting my items! Joann's, Michael's and Hobby Lobby profit from my sales more than anything :D But my at home job is medical billing/scanning. The only time I can do the scanning is when my 1yo is napping or sleeping at night. I look forward to the day when he is like my 4yo who can sit and watch tv or play games on the computer without my full on attention...sigh.

Where do you create?
I create at the kitchen table! The living room is open to the kitchen. The living room is blocked off too so, baby goes in there to play and I sit peacefully at the kitchen table crafting away while I keep a keen eye on him.

What are your goals for your shop?
The main goal for my shop is to be the shop that people come back to for items that are unique as the person who shops there. I truly enjoy making my items and I want people to adore them and wear or display them with pride.

{Thursday Thoughts} Addicted

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am addicted to crafting.

I had to run to the craft store today to grab one thing and guess what...I walked out with more than one thing! There is no way I can go to Michaels without having to look up and down every single isle. Of course since Bug came with, and was such a good girl, she got to pick out a toy from the $1 section {even though she really wanted the ball that was in the $4 bin!}

So I got what I needed plus I picked up some flowers, cardstock, and of course some yarn! I wanted to buy the whole store, but it was pouring here and I only ran in with $10 in my back pocket!

Here is what I came home and made:

They are all attached to a clippie and I'd love to put some in my shop but as you can see my camera + the bad lighting in this apartment = terrible photos! Maybe if it ever stops raining I can get some decent ones taken outside!

I am also so excited to let you know that these party hats will be added to my shop soon! I am planning on sending one out to be photographed. Tara {from Easy Makes Me Happy} gave me the ok to sell these that I made from her free pattern which you can find on her blog here.

{If you are interested in these clips or hats you can email me at totshop728@yahoo.com}
