Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Ashley. I am a stay at home to my almost 4 year old son, who is growing up WAY too fast! I love being able to stay home with him and watch him learn. My husband and I bought our first home together in the beautiful NW, we absolutely love it here! I love spending time with our little family and I really enjoy the outdoors and crafting.
What made you want to become an artist?
My grandma taught me how to sew when I was younger. When we had our first son I started making stuff for him. I loved just coming up with patterns in my head, and creating new things to make our life easier.
What is your favorite item to create?
My favorite item to create is probably my All-n-One changing clutch. It is a pattern that I came up with on my own, and it just makes those trips to the bathroom with baby so much easier :)
Do you have any websites connected to your shop?
I have a facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Sweet-Jay-Creations/205311572842441
What is the inspiration for your work?
My inspiration for Sweet Jay Creations started soon after mine and my husband's second son passed away. I needed something to keep me busy, so thats when I started making my first items to sell. I was forced to take a little brake though when my husband suffered a severe brain injury a little over a year ago. With lots of therapy and prayer my husband has improved enough that I am once again able to make more handmade creations :)
Do you have a job outside of Etsy? How do you handle both?
Other than caring for my family and making items for my shop, I babysit a couple children 5 days a week for a few hours. I usually get to work on items for my shop during my son's nap time or while he is busy playing in his playroom.
Where do you create?
I create all my items in the room that would have been our son's that passed away. He passed away few days before we got the keys to our house.
What are your goals for your shop?
My goals for my shop is to expand a lot more. I have some great ideas and some super cute material. So I am really excited to see what I come up with in the near future.
